Bumi Sehat Fundraiser
Gentle Births Heal Mother Earth
Yayasan Bumi Sehat is a birth center in Bali founded by Ibu Robin Lim, CPM. Robin is a gifted mother, midwife, poet, and humanitarian. She has inspired me for many years through her book After the Baby’s Birth: A Complete Guide for Postpartum Women, and her mission to serve women around the world, mostly in Bali. As I set out to explore Balinese practices during pregnancy and postpartum for a midwifery school project, I contacted Robin. After browsing the website for Bumi Sehat, I felt deeply moved and inspired to do some fundraising for them. As I continued to correspond with Robin, we realized that as she was soon to be coming to the United States and that she was landing in Philadelphia! Despite the short notice, we decided to create an event during the five days she would be in the area to ignite the flame of my fundraising efforts! With the help of my friend Christy Santoro, CPM, the first fundraising event was on October 2, 2010.
On October 2, 2010 we had a wonderful evening of music by Wil, Robin’s husband, and Hanoman, their son, followed by a showing of Guerilla Midwife. Guerilla Midwife is a documentary, produced by her daughter Déjà Bernhardt, about Robin’s humanitarian work in Bali, Aceh, and Haiti, and her mission to restore Gentle Birth on this planet.
